📝 Note: These instructions are provided as a general guideline and may work for your specific device. Check your operating system's website (Apple or Windows) for more details.
Internet Connection Speed
Whether you're using an Apple or Android device, a strong internet connection is needed. A strong Wi-Fi connection is ideal for meeting with a notary on the Notarize app, but if your Wi-Fi network isn't strong or stable enough, try switching to your cellular data network instead.
Notarize requires a reliable internet connection in order to successfully complete a notarization. We require that you have consistent download speeds of 5 Mbps and upload speed of 3 Mbps. Before your meeting, Notarize will test your network connection and display bars that indicate your network quality. Check out What Do Meeting Quality Network Indicators Mean? if you need help understanding the network quality bars.
Location
Notarize requires Location access as an additional security measure.
Give Notarize permission to use your Location
The first time the Notarize app tries to access your location, it will ask for your permission. Tap Allow in the lower right corner of the box that appears on your screen. Allowing access to location is required to use Notarize.
iOS
Ensure the Notarize app is downloaded and installed from the Apple App Store.
Camera & Microphone
To allow camera and microphone access:
- Open the Settings app (the gear icon).
- Scroll down and select the Notarize app.
- Ensure the switch to the right of Location, Microphone, and Camera are all in the ON position (green). If they are gray, tap the switch to turn on the function on.
Swipe up to return to your home screen and return to the Notarize app.
Change Location Services Settings
If you'd like to turn off location services in your iOS device after your meeting, you can go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. You can individually control which apps and system services have access to Location Services data. When Location Services are off, apps can't use your location in the foreground or background. This may limit the performance of various apps, including Notarize.
Android
Ensure the Notarize app is downloaded and installed from the Google Play Store.
Camera & Microphone
To allow camera and microphone access from your Settings app:
- Swipe up to access all apps and scroll to the Settings app (the gear icon).
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps to see a list of your apps. Tap See all ## apps (where ## is the number of apps on your phone) if necessary.
- Find the Notarize app in the list and tap it to open Notarize's App info.
- Tap Permissions.
- Tap Camera, Location, and Microphone and ensure that Allow only while using the app is selected.
- Tap the back arrow at the top of the screen or swipe up to your home screen.
You may now return to the Notarize app.
Change Location Access Settings
You can turn Location Services on or off at Settings > Location > App location permissions. You can individually control which apps and system services have access to Location Services data. When Location Services are off, apps can't use your location in the foreground or background. This may limit the performance of various apps, including Notarize.
