Learn what happens if identity verification is unsuccessful during your transaction. For complete details about KBA, read Knowledge-based Authentication for Signers.

What Causes KBA Failure?
Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) is used to verify your identity before you connect with a notary. This verification process will fail if you:
- Run out of time.
-or- - Answer questions incorrectly.
What Happens If I Fail?
If your first attempt at Knowledge-Based Authentication is unsuccessful for any reason, you will be given one more chance to answer the questions correctly within 2 minutes.
If your second attempt is unsuccessful, by law, you must wait 24 hours before making another attempt to verify your identity.
You'll receive a pop-up notification (see screenshot below) confirming the time you can try again tomorrow, at which time you'll have one (1) more chance to verify your identity with Knowledge-Based Authentication.
We understand this 24-hour wait may be frustrating, but this law is in place for your protection and security.
