What is a HELOC?

“HELOC” is short for Home Equity Line of Credit. A HELOC is a loan in which the lender agrees to lend a maximum amount within an agreed period, where the collateral is the borrower's equity in his/her property. Because a home often is a consumer's most valuable asset, many homeowners use home equity credit lines only for major items, such as education, home improvements, or medical bills, and choose not to use them for day-to-day expenses.

Why is there a Watermark on my HELOC Promissory Note?

Within all HELOC transactions completed on the Notarize platform and on subsequent copies, you will see a watermark which reads either, “copy for signing” or “signed copy.” The only watermark-free version of this document is the electronic “original” and is locked in an electronic vault (e-vault) accessible only to the lender.
